COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVATION
CITY WEST HOUSING
COMMUNITY STREET LIBRARIES
SYDNEY, 2020

City West Housing wanted to install 3 community street libraries at three of their public housing building. The aim of the project was to have the residents contribute to the design painted onto the libraries and potentially help paint them.

With the impact of Covid-19 I was forced to move all community engagement to online and the project ran over 3 stages of development.

  • I first created an online survey for community members to complete. I also made it possible for residents to email through artworks, images and other references if they wished.

  • Two concept artworks were then created from this feed back. Residents were then asked to provide feedback on these artworks.

  • The final stage was not able to be actioned as Covid regulations prevented me from having residents coming to my studio to help paint the libraries.

The libraries were installed in late 2020.

Locations of the street libraries:
223-229 Harris Street, Pyrmont
6 Wattle Street, Pyrmont
The Platform Apartments, 7 Carriageworks Way, Eveleigh

Testimonial

“Jeff was amazing to work with. He adapted to a new COVID environment creating and managing online processes that allowed us to engage residents throughout the project. The final product is spectacular and we couldn’t be happier.”
