YOUTH WEEK MURAL

 
 

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Ku-ring-gai Council is teaming up with Jeff McCann this Youth Week for an exciting mural project and we want you to be a part of it.
We will be painting a mural on the side of the St Ives Youth Hub based on the theme of

We are Ku-ring-gai. We are ______
We aren’t becoming. We are ______

The mural design will be made up of words and phrases that the youth of Ku-ring-gai submit.
The above is a mock up of the design concept and colour palette.

KEY DATES
Youth Forum Submissions - 26th Feb 2025
Submissions close - 7th March 2025
Final mural design revealed - 21st March 2025
Mural workshops - 14th-16th April 2025
Mural completed - 24th April 2025

STAGE 1: AT THE YOUTH FORUM

STAGE 2 : CREATING THE MURAL DESIGN

Here are some images showing the process of creating the mural design.
Jeff will take all the submissions and piece together the mural design. This process will also include consultation with the council and also members of the Youth Advisory Committee. Once finalised Jeff will then be hosting a series of workshops for young people
to help paint the mural.

  • The words and icons were traced digitally.

  • The drawings were then pieces together to fit the size of the wall. Trying to include as many submissions as possible.

  • A warp effect was used to create a more fluid, drippy & cohesive feeling. This allows the words to bleed into each other and feel like puzzle pieces.

  • The are design was then refined to make sure all words are still legible.

  • Finally the colour was added.

The concept was then put to the Youth Advisory Committee for consultation & feedback.

STAGE 3 : MURAL WORKSHOPS

Come be a part of this project & help this mural on the side of St Ives Youth Hub.
You will learn practical skills for tracing & painting. With all three workshops being led by Jeff McCann
There are limited spots so grab a friend & come join us these school holidays.

FREE EVENT - Ages 12-24 years

 

WORKSHOP 1:
MURAL TRACING
Monday 14th April, 2pm-4pm

Jeff will share the different methods for tracing mural designs onto walls. We will practice some of the methods & then spend some time tracing the artwork onto the wall. Please note this workshop will not involve any painting.

 

WORKSHOP 2:
MURAL PAINTING
Tuesday 15 April, 3pm-5pm

This workshop will involve colour blocking & paiWhat to bring ont he daynting the first coats of colour onto the wall.

WORKSHOP 3:
MURAL PAINTING
Wednesday 16 April, 11pm-2pm

This workshop will be primarily painting second coast of colour onto the wall.

What to bring on the day
- Drink & food/snack
- Wear clothes that you don’t mind if they get dirty or paint on them
- Hat & any other sun protection as we will be outside
