Voices United, 2026
Community co-created mural for the Dubbo Regional Council, Dubbo.
I was asked to create a mural in collaboration with the young people of Dubbo as part of Youth Week. With the mural to be painted in the Western Plains Cultural Centre’s workshop room. Where community programming and events are held.
The brief was to work along side Headspace Dubbo to deliver school holidays workshops that allowed the young people of the region to showcase their unique voices & perspectives through self portraits. Which I would then incorporate into the final mural design.
We had 59 artwork submissions across in-person and online submissions. My approach for this many artworks was to look at the wall like a large school photo.
My brief was to also create opportunities for youth people to have experience developing their creativity, connecting as a community & be a part of public art programming for the area.
As a result I hosted a series of workshops where youth could get hands on experience learning new skills for tracing designs onto walls and painting mural. As well as delivering artist talks for local high schools.
I had many youth coming back and engaging at multiple stages of the projects. From drawing workshops, painting workshops and then attending the opening.
